Our Downtown Alpharetta Renovation Story Begins Here!

I’ll start with a brief introduction. I’m Cathy Adams and my husband, Richard, and I have been building homes in the North Atlanta market since the 70’s…so that fits right into our story of our 1973 home renovation. Richard’s still building but I’ve been a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices for about 6 years now. So you see we share a love for real estate and houses. We thought we had one good project left in us for our personal home so the search began. It began over a year ago. We currently live in a townhome in Downtown Alpharetta and wouldn’t consider moving out of the hood but we wanted a home with a yard for our 3 furry (an understatement) babies. As a Realtor, when a new property came on the market in the downtown area I was alerted immediately. Most of them were discarded with one quick glance. But then one Friday afternoon about 4:00 I was sitting in my office and the email notice caught my attention. When I saw the front elevation my heart started beating faster with anticipation. And then when I opened the photographs I knew this was the one!!! Within seconds I was calling the listing agent to make an appointment and she was shocked stating” Wow…I just pressed the send button!” I quickly asked for an appointment and by the time we saw the house at 6:00 there were back to back showings every 30 minutes…clearly I was not the only one with this search. So we went and soaked in as much as we could in our 30 minute allotment. We looked at each other after a quick assessment of what we wanted to do and said  ”this could really work”. We met some friends that night at the Downtown Wood & Wire Songwriters Festival and shared our excitement. Annie looked me in the eye and said “you need to go home and write an offer…if you don’t you’ll regret it, this is perfect and exactly what you’ve been looking for”. I went home and started on the offer at midnight. I woke Richard and had him sign it so he wouldn’t forget he had agreed to it!  With multiple offers we had to negotiate strategically to get it but we did it! We’re so excited to share the journey of transforming our vintage 1973 ranch into our new home!
